Liverpool have completed the record signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth €90 million, including add-ons, tying the 23-year-old to a six-year contract.
The Reds prioritised attacking reinforcements this summer amid uncertainty over Darwin Núñez’s future and the tragic death of Diogo Jota, and have now secured one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.
Ekitiké arrived at Frankfurt in January 2024 from Paris Saint-Germain for just €16.5m, but after a slow start, blossomed into the club’s attacking talisman. He registered 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances last season, drawing attention from top clubs across Europe.
This move marks Eintracht Frankfurt’s second-most expensive sale ever, just behind Randal Kolo Muani’s €95m switch to PSG, and ahead of Omar Marmoush’s €75m transfer to Manchester City, assuming performance-based clauses are met.
Frankfurt have built a reputation for smart forward signings that turned major profits. With just €16.5m invested in Ekitiké, Kolo Muani, and Marmoush, the German club stands to earn up to €260m in transfer revenue from the trio alone.
The Bundesliga side has also cashed in on other big-name attackers like Luka Jovic (€63m to Real Madrid) and Sebastien Haller (€50m to West Ham), cementing its status as a striker production powerhouse.
For Liverpool, the acquisition of Ekitiké is a major statement of intent under new manager Arne Slot, as the club aims to rebuild its frontline for the post-Klopp era.
