Laterna Ventures Limited, leading book sales and distribution company, as part of its contribution to inspire younger generation to embrace the culture of reading early organised a reading session for students of Princeton School Surulere, Lagos.
The event, which was held in commemoration of the world book day, represents the company’s own response to foster an endearing love for books among young people in order to mould a generation of leaders who are readers.
Nnaji Ugbaja, head of corporate affairs unit, Laterna Ventures Limited, speaking at the event said the world book day is a global event that the company uses as an opportunity to encourage the culture of book reading among students.
According to him, “Books are treasures and information is usually hidden in books. The whole essence of reading is so we as a people and a nation can come out better. The development we have seen around the world today revolves around reading. ”
Ugbaja observed that most of the information needed to succeed in life is usually embedded in books, and that the whole idea of the programme is just to ensure that children are exposed to books at early age.
According to him, “As you know, readers are leaders. If children imbibe the habit of reading from childhood, it becomes a habit and a lifestyle for them even as they grow older.”
He disclosed that the company has for several years been celebrating the world book day, adding that in the past, Laterna used to go to schools, holding reading sessions.
“We are not oblivious of the current economic challenges in the country which accounts for why the company limited the idea of going to schools. In the past we used to do book donations to any school visited and we sponsor several initiatives geared towards celebrating world book day,” he said.
He further said that the company had for over 20 years being in the business of providing unique books, ensuring that it fills in the gap of providing books that customers do not readily find around anywhere in the country.
