LASG focused on creating enabling environment for private sector- Ambode
The governor of Lagos state, Akinwumi Ambode has said that the state government is focused on creating enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, as it is the next phase of economic growth and prosperity.
Ambode, who was represented by Tunji Bello, the secretary to the state government, made the call at the dinner and award night of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria which was held recently in Lagos.
“The private sector as we all know is verging on an arrival of a modern economy, the role of the government is to provide the enabling environment for private entrepreneurial initiatives to thrive,” said Ambode.
The governor however urged private sector representatives to play by laid down rules of the government as it is the medium through which a sustainable economy can be built.
The event, which was themed “Corporate Governance and Human Resource Management: Trends and prospects in Nigeria” had Sola Fajana, a professor of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management of the University of Lagos, as it’s guest speaker.
Fajana in a statement said the theme is a reminder of the critical role corporate governance must play inconjuction with Human Resource Management towards the overall effectiveness of all sectors, as well as the sustainable development for Nigeria.
He opined that corporate governance, when integrated with human resource management will produce an unstoppable global trend.
Two corporate organisations in the FMCGs and hospitality business, Nestle Nigeria and Transcorp hotel were presented with the IoD corporate governance award by the president and chairman of governing council, Ahmed Rufai Mohammed.
The night attracted esteemed personalities and corporate organizations, while awards were also presented to the immediate past members of the board for their meritorious service to the institute, as the dinner and award night marks the end of IoD Nigeria activities for the year.
