Musa Wada, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in the weekend governorship election in Kogi State, has rejected the results as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly those of Okene, Adavi and Okehi in the Central Senatorial district, describing them as window dressing.
Addressing journalists at Sutoria Hotel in Lokoja on Sunday, Wada said the conduct of the election was tailored to favour the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Yahaya Bello by INEC, security agencies and Abuja. He added that democracy had lost its value with the electoral fraud perpetrated by the APC-led administration at both the state and federal levels, stressing that if the said election was accepted by the INEC, then it would be all over for the nation.
Wada equally argued that he was yet to come to terms with how Okene and Adavi came up with such a figure which had defied all known records of election figures in those local government areas.
“The APC government, supported by INEC, police has used Okene and Adavi in particular, to rig the election in favour of Yahaya Bello. We are going to contest the APC figure of 112,764 as against PDP’s 366 votes in Okene, and 64,657 votes given to APC against 139 votes in Adavi local government, respectively. This is unacceptable. It’s not about Wada, but the survival of democracy in the country,” he said.
“We therefore rejected the results of Okene, Adavi, Okehi from the central district, where governor Yahaya Bello comes from. It’s virtually clear that the results of these councils and many others were doctored for the APC candidate. Party agents were chased away by security operatives and thugs at collation centres, and electoral officers were then forced to sign prepared results.
“Our people have voted for a change, but their expression is not what was being announced by the INEC. It’s a sad day for the electorate in the state as their votes were not allowed to count,” he expressed.
Following the turn of events and the announcement of the results of 18 local government areas, Yahaya Bello the incumbent governor and APC flag bearer, will be declared as the winner of the gubernatorial election that took place on Saturday.
