Kebbi State government has launched a security training program for Local Government Chairmen focused on enhancing safety measures at the community level. The initiative aims to transform local officials into effective security coordinators within their jurisdictions.
The program, titled “Predictive and Community Policing to increase Security in Kebbi State,” is organised by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. The ministry has partnered with Shegs Communications Limited to develop and deliver the specialised training.
Hon. Abubakar Garba Dustin Mari, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, explained that local government chairmen serve as crucial links between communities and state authorities. He noted that this strategic position makes them essential to addressing security challenges effectively at the grassroots level.

“We strongly believe that this program will go a long way in tackling the challenges of security lapses in the state,” the Commissioner stated while highlighting the involvement of security experts and Special Operations Consultants in the training delivery.
Participants in the program will undergo workshops covering various aspects of security management, including crisis response, community engagement, and intelligence gathering. These sessions are designed to provide practical skills for immediate implementation across local government areas.
Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, who initiated the program, emphasised the importance of community involvement in security efforts. He described the approach as combining local leadership with strategic security policies to address challenges proactively.
Mr. Segun Adebowale, CEO of Shegs Communications Ltd, outlined that the training represents a shift from reactive to preventative security measures. He emphasised that the governor’s vision centres on creating safer communities through empowered local leadership.
The state government expects this model to foster greater citizen cooperation with law enforcement agencies while promoting community ownership of security initiatives throughout Kebbi State.
