Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has called for the public parade of suspects involved in the ‘jungle justice’ of 16 hunters from Edo State, emphasising the need for accountability and deterrence against extrajudicial killings.
The hunters from Kano, were reportedly mistaken for criminals and lynched in Uromi, Edo State. The tragic incident has sparked outrage, with demands for justice from the Edo State Government and various civil rights groups.
Governor Yusuf, addressing the matter, insisted that the suspects should be publicly paraded to send a strong message against jungle justice.

“This is a grievous act, and we must ensure justice prevails. Those responsible should be held accountable in a transparent manner,” he stated.
Beyond calls for justice, Yusuf has also reached out to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to strengthen interstate collaboration on security and public awareness.
Both governors acknowledged the need for a structured response to prevent similar occurrences, including sensitization campaigns to educate communities on handling security concerns lawfully.
Okpebholo, in his response, decried the killing of the hunters, describing it as a serious breakdown of law and order. He urged for thorough investigations and prosecution of those involved.

“It is unacceptable that innocent citizens can be brutalized in such a manner. We demand a full-scale probe and justice for the victims,” Okpebolo said.
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident, with several suspects reportedly arrested.
However, concerns remain over the effectiveness of measures to curb mob violence, a recurring issue in parts of Nigeria where distrust in law enforcement fuels instant justice by crowds.
The case continues to generate national discourse on the need for proper law enforcement and community engagement to prevent further tragedies of this nature.
