The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KACCIMA) has elected a new leadership to preside over the affairs of the chamber, ending the five years old leadership crisis that rocked the organisation.
The election of the leadership which took place weekend in the commercial city of Kano, witnessed the emergence of Usman Hassan Darma, as the new president of the 12 -man leadership committee of the chamber.
In his acceptance speech, Darma emphasised that his administration will prioritise reforms across all sectors of the Chamber, with a strong focus on capacity building and collaboration with key stakeholders to strengthen Kano’s business community.
He described the election as a turning point, noting that unity among members has paved the way for progress.
“Let me assure you that my tenure will see to the reform of the Chamber while advancing trade and industrial growth. The concerns of our members will be given top priority,” Darma stated.
He also expressed gratitude to KACCIMA members for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to run an open and inclusive government that ensures unity across the council.
The newly elected council includes professionals from diverse sectors, which Darma believes will help drive the Chamber’s mission forward.
The outgoing president, Garba Imam, highlighted the significance of the election and the long-overdue amendments to the Chamber’s
Memorandum and Articles of Association, calling it vital for future efficiency.
He added that “I am proud to report that, over the past two years, we have laid a strong foundation for KACCIMA, positioning it as a vibrant and sustainable modern chamber of commerce, in line with global best practices.
During the last two years, we have implemented significant reforms within the Secretariat, including the automation of financial and membership records. We have improved staff welfare and introduced new revenue generation avenues. We have also established strong corporate governance measures to ensure transparency, accountability, and disclosure.
Our efforts have created a robust platform for a modern KACCIMA, and I hope that future Councils will embrace a culture of continuity to maintain and enhance these initiatives.” The Outgoing President stated.
