Jonathan’s re-election campaign fund sparks commotion in Ogun PDP
There was commotion Wednesday at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seminar held for Ogun State coordinators engaged for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election as some members went berserk following the failure of some leaders of the party to release the fund allegedly meant for the co-coordinators.
The seminar, which was held at a hotel on Quarry Road in Abeokuta, was meant to sensitise 708 coordinators drawn from 236 wards of the state, but was abruptly terminated due to the tensed atmosphere as occasioned by the commotion, leading to detention of two PDP National Working Committee members, Fatai Adeyanju, national auditor and Pegba Otemolu, South-West Secretary of the party.
It was gathered that the meeting started at 10am and lasted for about five hours.
The coordinators got provoked when the national auditor told them that the fund was not available at the moment and explained that the money had not been deposited in the designated account into which they had told the presidency to deposit the fund.
But the coordinators became more infuriated when they discovered that N1million expense bill had been issued for food and drinks that were not served till the end of the seminar and the coordinators consequently held the two party leaders hostage, insisting that they would not allow them to go until they release the fund meant for them.
