Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said that he will announce to the people of the State, at an appropriate time, his preferable candidate, who will succeed him as governor in 2027.
This, the governor said, he will do without sentiments of any kind, warning the governorship aspirants not to overheat the polity, but should play the game according to the rules.
Governor Sule stated this during a Stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Nasarawa West Senatorial District, held in Keffi, the Headquarters of Keffi Local Government Area, on Sunday.
The stakeholders meeting brought together all the governorship aspirants, former and serving members of the National and State Assemblies, former and serving members of the SEC, local government chairmen from the Western zone.
Also in attendance were Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, the APC Legal Adviser; Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, Minister of Police Affairs; Aliyu Ahmed Tijani, Federal Commissioner/CEO, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons; the State APC Chairman and his Secretary, the SSG, Shuiabu Labaran Magaji, among other stakeholders unanimously agreed that, the next governor of the State should come from the Western Zone.

At the meeting Governor Sule, said that he would ensure justice and fairness during party primary for continuity of purpose governance to the people, progress of the party and development of the State.
He reminded the stakeholders’ that, power comes from God, and as such, only him alone gives power to whoever he wants.
“But A. A. Sule has the right to say, I like so and so person, and when the time comes for me to say I like so so person, I will mention it clear without fear or favour, that I like this person to succeed me.
“And when the time comes, I will not be scared to say, this is my candidate. I have the responsibilities to ensure that the primary election is transparent and fair,” the governor said.
While calling for unity among APC stakeholders for progress beyond 2027, Sule warned them not to over heat the polity but to play the game by its rules.
He, therefore thanked the APC stakeholders and all other governorship aspirants in the state for cautioning their supporters during the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the State.
Danladi Jatau, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, commended the first civilian Governor Abdullahi Adamu for initiating the meeting.
“It is our turn to produce the Governor in 2027, we supported other zones and it is time for them to support us in 2027.
“We will get it right in 2027, if we did not have betrayers” the Speaker said.
Abdullahi Adamu in his opening remarks, said that it is the time of Western Zone to produce the next Governor of the State.
He said that, the meeting was organised in order to unite stakeholders and other party faithfuls to ensure that, the zone produce the next Governor come 2027.
