Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called on political leaders to put aside premature scheming for the 2027 general elections and focus instead on supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver on his mandate.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, who served as a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), expressed concern over what he described as growing political distractions stemming from early jostling for power.
He cautioned that such behaviour undermines efforts to address the critical socio-economic challenges confronting the nation.
“Some people are already jostling to be Vice President.

The President is facing serious tasks to keep the economy healthy, defeat the evil of insurgency, and fix critical infrastructures that are not being supported anymore.
“The noise-making of these political opportunists, hell-bent on causing distractions, is capable of slowing down progress.
“It is becoming nauseating, to say the least. The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away, and yet those chasing positions won’t allow the president to work. That must stop forthwith,” Oyintiloye said.
The former lawmaker noted that President Tinubu inherited a troubled economy in 2023, plagued by a ballooning debt profile, volatile currency rates, and an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime. However, he lauded the president’s reform-driven approach and described his leadership as one that is gradually restoring hope to the populace.
“Through his technocratic background, halfway into his administration, the president has rekindled a ray of hope that many Nigerians had begun to lose,” he said.
Oyintiloye highlighted key reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, as bold moves that are already yielding positive outcomes. He urged political actors to rally behind the president instead of indulging in premature political manoeuvring.

According to him, what President Tinubu needs at this point in time is collective support, prayers, and solidarity, not distractions from those fixated on the 2027 or even 2031 elections.
“There are many pressing national matters that the president is attending to at the moment. Distracting him with who gets what ahead of the 2027 and even 2031 elections is absurd and uncalled for.
“What the president needs at this point in time is our collective support, prayers, solidarity, and not unnecessary clamour for a power struggle ahead of 2027,” he said
He urged leaders across party lines to focus on governance and give the president the space and support he needs to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.
