The Idoma Nollywood Practitioners have officially inaugurated a new group of national and chapter leaders, signalling a transformative period for the indigenous film industry based in Benue State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, industry ambassadors, and practitioners, saw Sir David Ejembi sworn in as the new National President. Ambassador Prince Agbo assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), while Mr Oloche was inaugurated as Chairman of the newly established Abuja Chapter, emphasising the association’s growing influence in the nation’s capital.
A Legacy of Storytelling, A Vision for the Future
The idea for Idoma Nollywood was first conceived in 1999 and formally registered in 2009 through the efforts of Ambassador Prince Agbo and Elder Sunny Okwori.
Since then, it has grown into a vital platform dedicated to sharing authentic Idoma stories, preserving cultural heritage, and mentoring emerging talents in filmmaking, acting, and production.
The creation of the Abuja Chapter marks a strategic move to enhance industry collaboration, raise professional standards, and position Idoma cinema for greater national and international recognition. Leadership highlighted the importance of leveraging digital platforms, forming strategic partnerships, and implementing structured training programmes to boost the industry’s global competitiveness.
Ambassador Prince Agbo, now leading the BOT, will provide institutional guidance and ensure continuity, with a strong emphasis on governance and resource mobilisation.
In a move that strengthens grassroots representation, Mrs Cecilia Peter, the current Otukpo Local Government Chairperson, was appointed BOT Treasurer. Her elevation underscores the association’s commitment to recognising leadership from its base in Benue State.
Built on the twin pillars of cultural pride and creative enterprise, Idoma Nollywood remains a unifying force for filmmakers and artists dedicated to preserving and showcasing Idoma identity through cinema. With a revitalised executive team in place, industry insiders affirm that the association is set for a new chapter marked by innovation, expansion, and strategic relevance.
