The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has denied previous allegation regarding its failure to energise new transformers donated to residents of Oke-Omi community, in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement made to refute an earlier media report which alleged them of failing to energise a 500KVA, 33/0.415KV donated to the community, IBEDC stated that there are procedures that must be adhered to before energising transformers.
“We wish to state that there are procedures that must be adhered to in energising transformers. A major one is the issuance of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) certificate, without which no Transformer can be energized,” said Angela Olanrewaju, head-branding, and communications, IBEDC.
“The agency issued a circular in June this year as part of their statutory functions, placing an embargo on the energisation of 33KV transformers,” Olanrewaju said.
She stated that IBEDC is a customer-centric organization that is poised to keep improving its service delivery despite the humongous challenges bedeviling the sector.
She added that the organization does not operate outside or beyond the stipulated procedure for energising transformers, saying that the IBEDC is working the industry regulations.
“We advise the communities to follow the due process for a mutually beneficial relationship,” she further said.
“IBEDC, however, appreciates Oke-Omi Community and others for their partnership in ensuring power supply to the people and remains committed to meeting the needs and yearnings of its customers,” she added.
