President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, says the Super Falcons‘ stunning comeback to win the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) should serve as a powerful inspiration for the Super Eagles as they prepare for their remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

Gusau was emotionally elated at the Stade Olympique in Rabat on Saturday night as the Super Falcons recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 and lift a historic 10th WAFCON title and $1 million in prize money.
“I am very happy because our girls rose from the ‘dead’, as they say, and fought to victory. This was an extraordinary performance,” Gusau said. “I congratulate them for their resilience, doggedness, patriotism, and the bold display of the Nigerian spirit.
“This victory and the spirit behind it will have a positive impact on the Super Eagles as they chase World Cup qualification. We still have four matches to turn things around, and the Falcons have shown it’s never over until it’s over.”
Gusau praised the Super Falcons’ commanding display throughout the tournament, where they scored 14 goals and conceded only three, including wins over all three teams that defeated them during their underwhelming 2022 campaign.
“From the coaching crew to the team captain and every player, I say thank you and well done. Having conquered Africa again, our next target should be global success at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” he added.
The Super Eagles will resume their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign in September, hosting Rwanda before travelling to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
