Hundreds of pro- testers under the aegis of Voice of the Voiceless who besieged the Nation- al Assembly complex on Wednesday called for the passage of the legislation stipulating death penalty for corrupt officials and others in the country.
The group, in separate letters addressed to the lead- ership of the Senate and House of Representatives, urged them to “initiate the process of signing this death penalty into law to enable this measure take effect so as to foster the change that the citizens of this country have been yearning for.”
Oliver Ezeala, national coordinator of the group, who expressed concern over the lackadaisical attitude of past National Assembly to tackle corruption, said: “Corruption as we are all aware of has eaten so deep into the fabrics of this great nation and we are strongly advocating for death penalty to anybody who is found guilty of corrupt practices, no matter how highly placed they are in the society.
“Nigeria has tried every other measures of deterrent but to no avail. We want this great nation to tow the path of countries like Indonesia, Singapore, China, and other world powers who have achieved so much devel- opmental strides as a result of their zero tolerance on corruption.
