The Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, Honourable Isiaka Wasiu, has showered praise on Team Ogun’s record-breaking swimmer, Tobiloba Omolola, following her stunning performance at the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024.
The honourable Wasiu described Omolola as a sensational and highly skilled athlete, hailing her as one of the most formidable competitors at the festival.
“Tobiloba Omolola is not just an exceptional swimmer; she’s an athlete of note. We are proud to have her represent Team Ogun, and her incredible performance will be fully rewarded,” the commissioner stated.
Omolola set two major records in the swimming event:
A New National Record and Festival Record in the 800m freestyle women’s event, clocking 10:22.32 secs.
A new festival record in the 400m freestyle women’s event with a time of 4:53.34 secs.
Her electrifying display made her the centre of attraction on Day 5, drawing fans and sports enthusiasts in large numbers to the MKO Abiola International Stadium, eager to witness the national champion in action.
The Honourable Commissioner expressed confidence that more medals would be won by Team Ogun in the coming days and lauded the home crowd in Abeokuta for their passionate support.
“The fans and supporters from our cultural capital have been phenomenal. Their presence has truly lifted our athletes, and their support is deeply appreciated,” he added.
