As international oil companies (IOCs) increasingly shift their operations to deep offshore locations, Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape is witnessing a surge in local ownership and strategic investments. The ongoing divestment from onshore assets has sparked significant changes in the industry, creating unprecedented opportunities for indigenous companies to take on a greater role in the transformation of the energy sector.
Recently, the Federal Government announced that Nigeria has attracted over $8 billion in Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) for deepwater oil and gas projects in under one year. This milestone underscores the positive impact of presidential directives aimed at removing long-standing bottlenecks and creating a more enabling environment for investment in the sector. These transactions will unlock the potential of hundreds of idle wells, boost local production capacity, and reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to fostering indigenous participation and driving sustainable energy growth. NOG Energy Week will address the growing trend of IOCs moving towards deep offshore operations, leaving a large portion of onshore assets to indigenous operators.
As Africa’s energy sector faces both challenges and opportunities, NOG Energy Week 2025 will facilitate collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and investors. This year, the conference will explore strategies to surmount these challenges. The event will feature a series of engaging sessions, panel discussions, and presentations that delve into pressing issues facing the sector, including the diversification of energy sources, the integration of renewable energy, and the implementation of effective regulatory frameworks.
