Nigerian film production company, Five 2 Media Entertainment, is set to release its latest feature, Remi X Nneoma, a modern adaptation of the biblical story of Ruth and Naomi. The drama follows the lives of two women, bound by grief and family ties, navigating loss and seeking new beginnings in the Nigerian community of Ikwerre.
The film is led by Executive Producer Solate Ovundah-Akarolo, known for the award-winning Xtra Mile, and is produced by actress Bikiya Graham-Douglas, who also stars in the film. Remi X Nneoma is directed by Lyndsey Efejuku and features music supervision by Kalinè, known for her work on Breath of Life and After 30. The film is notable for its female-led leadership across production roles.
“This is a story about transformation, about finding strength in unlikely places,” says Graham-Douglas. “We wanted to craft a narrative that challenges old norms, celebrates women’s agency, and honours the depth of intergenerational love.”
The story centres on Nneoma, played by Liz Benson Ameye, and her daughter-in-law Remi, played by Bisola Aiyeola. After a shared personal loss, both women choose to remain together in Ikwerre. As they confront grief, societal pressure, and the struggles of widowhood, their relationship deepens. Through this journey, Remi discovers new love, leading to unexpected growth and transformation for both women.
The cast includes Nigerian actors Uche Montana, Ifeanyi Kalu, Eucharia Anunobi, Buchi Franklin, Martha Ehinome, Kunle Coker, Kelechi Udegbe, and Tina Mba. The screenplay was written by Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu.
Efejuku notes, “This film is about more than survival, it’s about reinvention. Remi X Nneoma offers a rare kind of emotional honesty. It’s intimate and grand all at once.”
Aiyeola, who played the lead actress, reflects on her role, saying, “Remi is every woman who’s had to rebuild herself from the ground up. Her power lies in her quiet persistence. Portraying her was an unforgettable experience.”
Ovundah-Akarolo adds, “Remi X Nneoma is deeply personal, yet universal. It’s a story of courage, connection, and the quiet power of women who choose to begin again.”
The film will be released across cinemas in Nigeria, with international screenings scheduled to follow.
