A fire broke out at the Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja in the early hours of Thursday.
The fire, which reportedly began around 3 a.m., had an undetermined cause as of the time of filing this report. Information obtained by our correspondent indicated that the incident was confined to the Adidas Sports store within the mall.
Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, and the Julius Berger Fire Department, along with police officers, quickly arrived at the scene to contain the situation.
James Babatunde, an eyewitness and a Jabi resident, told our correspondent that the fire was eventually brought under control.
He said, “At about 3 a.m. today, there was a fire outbreak at Jabi Lake Mall. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed. The fire only affected the Adidas Sports shop.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said officers were deployed to safeguard the area and prevent any acts of looting.
“We got a distress call around 3:40 a.m. and immediately sent our personnel to secure the premises and maintain public order,” Adeh explained.
This comes shortly after another fire outbreak occurred at the Old Karu Market in Abuja, where goods worth millions of naira were destroyed before being extinguished by the combined efforts of the FCT Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and Julius Berger Fire Service.
