The Federal Government has launched the “EDU REVAMP” Communities of Practice (CoPs), a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening professional collaboration among teachers and driving systemic education reform across the country.
Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, speaking at the launch event, held in Abuja, described the initiative as a strategic move to enhance teacher capacity and modernise classroom delivery through collaboration, innovation, and practice.
According to the Minister, the Communities of Practice will serve as vibrant learning hubs where educators across Nigeria can share resources, receive mentorship, and engage in continuous professional development using 21st-century tools.
“Today’s event is more than just a ceremony. It is a milestone in our collective journey to transform education delivery and professional collaboration in our schools. We are officially launching the Communities of Practice (CoPs), which fall under the larger umbrella of our Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Initiative.
“These CoPs are not just groups; they are learning communities, hubs of shared knowledge, and platforms for sustainable teacher professional development,” she stated
She explained further that the CoPs form a critical part of the Ministry’s broader Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Initiative and would be closely integrated with the upcoming “EDU REVAMP” digital platform.
The platform will offer online training modules designed to equip teachers with contemporary skills and offer incentives for their progress.
“This platform will not only boost your teaching skills with 21st-century tools, but it will incentivise and reward your progress. Every completed module will bring value to your classroom and to you personally,” Ahmad said.
The Minister emphasised that the CoPs and digital platform were not exclusive to public school teachers or federal institutions. “This initiative is open to all teachers in Nigeria, whether in public or private schools. It’s about building a nationwide movement of educators working together.”
The launch also marked the beginning of a targeted capacity-building workshop for 80 carefully selected teachers and Federal Ministry of Education staff.
Ahmad added that these participants drawn from federal colleges across six pilot states would serve as the first generation of CoP coordinators, trained to support and mentor fellow educators nationwide.
As part of the operational rollout, the trained coordinators will anchor the CoPs and support their peers in accessing and navigating the digital platform. According to her, the synergy between the two components is designed to create sustainable, peer-led systems for ongoing learning and mentorship.
The Minister commended the CoP Committee, inaugurated earlier in March 2025, for laying the foundation for the initiative and urged them to ensure the sustainability and wide-scale adoption of the platform across the country.
