The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) Customs Duty Payment Portal, developed in partnership with Paystack, to digitalise payments for imported parcels and improve transparency in the postal and logistics value chain.
Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, unveiled the platform in Abuja on Thursday.
Tijani was represented by Rafiu Adeladan, Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
They said the digital payment system will reduce human contact, eliminate delays, and improve efficiency in line with global standards.

He described the platform as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative to enhance service delivery and public sector accountability.
“For years, many Nigerians importing small parcels or business goods have faced the same frustrations hidden customs charges revealed only at pickup, long queues at post offices, and frequent complaints about inefficiency,” the Minister said.
“These are not just service issues; they are barriers to trade, e-commerce, and small business growth. When citizens lose time and money navigating inefficient systems, the entire economy loses value.”
He expressed optimism that the NIPOST–Paystack collaboration would change that narrative, allowing citizens to get better service while improving government revenue collection and transparency.
According to him, the partnership shows how public and private institutions can work together to create practical solutions that rebuild trust and make government more responsive.
“NIPOST, working with the private sector, has built an ecosystem that reduces friction, restores trust, and turns government into a platform for innovation,” Tijani said.
Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster General of the Federation, described the platform as an important step in NIPOST’s digital transformation.
Odeyemi said the solution will help the government monitor revenue from parcel transactions and address operational bottlenecks.
She “Today, we are witnessing a new chapter in NIPOST’s story — one that combines our legacy of public service with technology and innovation,”.
“For decades, NIPOST has connected Nigerians through letters, parcels, and logistics. But in this era of digital trade and e-commerce, connection means more than delivery; it means convenience, transparency, and trust.”

Odeyemi added that with the integration of Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox, NIPOST is building a seamless system for international inbound parcels, enabling online customs payments and home delivery.
“We are addressing a long-standing customer pain point — one that has been voiced repeatedly on social media, in post offices, and through feedback channels,” she said.
