FG, IOM to repatriate 330 irregular Nigerian migrants from Libya
A statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, George Ehidiamen Edokpa, said the returnees are scheduled to be flown simultaneously on board two chartered Buraq Airline flights and are expected to arrive Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos at about 4.30pm.
On arrival, the returnees would be received by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and other relevant agencies. The Ministry assured the public that the Embassy of Nigeria in Tripoli, Libya, in collaboration with relevant authorities remains committed to addressing the scourge of irregular migration by Nigerians in Libya, the statement said.
Nearly 3,000 Nigerians have so far been repatriated to Nigeria from the war-ravaged North African country since last year, where most of them had suffered dehumanizing experience as they were either killed, sold as slaves or forced into prostitution.
