The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has sought to curb communal clashes and tackle the persistent problem of cattle roaming in Abuja’s city centre, following a meeting between Ajao Adewale, Commissioner of Police and leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
The session brought together representatives of the three major groups under Miyetti Allah, the MACBAN, KAUTAHURI, and FALAKO YESU-YESU factions, in what participants described as the first formal interactive session between the association and an FCT Commissioner of Police.

In his remarks, Adewale expressed deep concern over the recurring involvement of herders in communal clashes within the territory, stressing that such conflicts undermine security and social cohesion.
He reiterated that the practice of cattle roaming within the city centre was no longer acceptable, noting that it posed risks to public safety, traffic management, and urban order.
“The command is committed to ensuring peaceful coexistence among residents of Abuja.
“We expect Miyetti Allah leaders to take full responsibility in sensitising their members against cattle roaming and any form of violence. Everyone must respect the rights of other citizens,” Adewale said.
Responding, leaders of Miyetti Allah applauded the initiative, pledging their full cooperation with the police.
They assured the Commissioner that resolutions reached during the meeting would be implemented at the grassroots level and that feedback would be provided within one week.
The FCT Police Command said it will closely monitor compliance with the agreements reached, continue to engage relevant stakeholders on grazing land challenges, and strengthen community policing strategies to prevent future conflicts.
