A devastating fire has claimed the lives of four members of a family in Kundila Layin Baba Impossible, located in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
Confirming the incident, Abba Datti, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, said the fire occurred around 4:13 a.m. on Wednesday, leaving four family members dead before they could be rescued.
Datti explained that personnel were immediately mobilised to the scene after residents alerted the agency to the outbreak. Upon arrival, firefighters found the 40-by-30-foot ground-floor residence completely engulfed in flames. The fire had already consumed the bedrooms, parlour, kitchen, and toilet, trapping the occupants inside.
The victims were identified as 43-year-old Shodandi, his wife Rafi’a, and their young daughters—three-year-old Mardiya and 18-month-old Yusira—all of whom died in the blaze. Only 12-year-old Aminu Shodandi survived the incident.

Datti added that Saminu Yusif, the State Chief Fire Officer, has extended condolences to the surviving family and urged residents to maintain heightened caution during the harmattan season, when fires spread rapidly and unpredictably.
As investigations continue, the tragic incident has reignited calls for community-level fire safety training, improved early-warning systems, and psychological support for emergency responders who often face traumatic scenes in the line of duty.
