It looks like only time will tell if Gov Sim Fubara has been conquered or rather empowered. In politics, too much suppression of a political character often backfires and makes him/her far more popular than before, just like the Natasha syndrome.
Fubara was just tolerated when he emerged guber candidate in 2022 especially as he was perceived as a Nyesom Wike pick. He became governor and was not regarded much, expect for the favours most persons needed. Then, wam, the political crisis of failed impeachment.
The state was polarized and most people saw him as the victim. Support simply massed behind him. He too made some revelations that won him more followership.
Now, the war is seemingly over (or is it ceasefire) and he appealed to the masses to take it easy or even leave him to suffer. Not at all. The masses now want to love him and embrace him as if love is by force.
Now, everywhere Fubara goes, people sponsor themselves to go catch a glimpse as if he has grown new beards or a horn.
On Monday, October 27, 2025, he showed up at the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project which is very dear to the Kalabari people where he revealed that the piling work was 75% done. The road is 12.5km and will connect the state capital to several Kalabari communities across the sea.
The governor rode on a boat through the rivers and creeks on the project route during the inspection, something security would never have allowed with any other governor in recent memory. His roots as a riverine uncle seems to show.
The project was awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Limited, on May 15, 2024, with an initial 32-month completion timeline for about N225bn. The visit was to verify what he was hearing. It is most technically demanding, he said.
Now, everywhere Fubara goes, huge organic crowd follows.
