The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has ordered its members to down tools across the country, accusing the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) of neglecting critical staff welfare issues.
In a memo issued Wednesday and signed by Dominic Igwebike, NUEE’s acting general secretary, the union said the action follows the expiration of its ultimatum to the TCN.
The unresolved grievances include non-payment of staff salaries since April 2025, failure to implement the national minimum wage, casualisation of workers, lack of operational vehicles and working tools, and non-provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) since 2021.

The union also cited outstanding retirement benefits and unresolved issues from TCN’s unbundling exercise.
“It is unfortunate that TCN management has chosen to treat these matters with levity and without a clear roadmap for resolution,” the memo read. “We cannot continue to fold our arms while our rights are violated and the electricity sector drifts further into decline.”
NUEE said the strike takes immediate effect and instructed members nationwide to ensure full compliance until management addresses their demands.
