Former Secretary to the government of the Federation under the Jonathan’s administration has been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC).
EFCC sources said Anyim who also served as President of Senate under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was arrested by the anti- graft body over alleged shortfalls of N396 billion in the Ecological Funds.
Anyim travails is being linked to a petition written by a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Cairo Ojougboh, on the Centenary City project initiated under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Cairo Ojougboh, who is now a member of the All Progressive Congress APC, had implicated Pius Anyim over the project which led to the establishment of a full scale investigation into the Centenary City project, over allegations that Anyim had wrongfully enriched himself by acquiring close to 3,000 hectors of land from the project.
The allegations had led to the invitation of the of former military Head Of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and the entire Centenary City Committee by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016.
The project which was designed as a private property project, had remained stalled despite the investment of close to 18 billion U.S Dollar by the Abu Dhabi based, property developer, Messrs Eagle Hills,
The Abu Dhabi-based real estate investment and development company who were partnering the federal government to provide the state of the art city, had been working with construction giants, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for the construction of the project.
Recall that Anyim and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed had walked out on the Herman Hembe led House of Representatives investigation Committee into the Centenary City project over alleged intimidation, which they claimed did not allow them to get fair hearing.
Several calls to get the EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren to confirm or deny the alleged arrest proved abortive as his line ranged without response.
