Governor Monday Okpebholo has presented cheques to 47 families of deceased state employees and announced educational scholarships for one dependent from each family, under the State’s Group Life Insurance Scheme implemented in partnership with Tangerine Life Insurance.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Government House, Benin City, the governor said the gesture reflected his administration’s commitment to compassion and institutional welfare.

“It is not just about insurance; it is about goodness,” Okpebholo said. “You are receiving these entitlements because of the painful loss you’ve suffered. The scholarship is our way of ensuring you are not left behind.”
Managing Director/CEO of Tangerine Life Insurance, Kehinde Borisade, commended Edo State for emerging as a leader in pension and insurance reforms, noting that the insurer has paid over ₦200 million in benefits to 47 families this year alone.
In another event, Okpebholo commissioned five new vehicles donated to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Edo Command, to aid the movement of inmates and defendants to court.

“If inmates cannot get to court, they cannot get justice,” the governor stated. “Governance must protect the rights of every individual.”
Sunday Oyakhire, controller of the Command, who received the vehicles on behalf of the Service, expressed appreciation to the state government.
