Ahead of the September 10 governorship election in Edo State, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will hold its primaries on June 20, 2016.
To this end, the Committee that handled the election of 576 ad-hoc delegates that will participate in the primaries has submitted its report to the National Caretaker Committee.
Chairman of the Electoral panel and former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam said the exercise was hitch-free in all the 192 wards in the state.
According to him, the three governorship aspirants in the race for PDP ticket assisted in ensuring the election of the delegates was successful by signing an agreement to abide by the outcome of the exercise.
He applauded members of Edo State chapter of the party for comporting themselves in civilised manner during the delegates election.
The chairman added that the election of the delegates was monitored by officials of the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant security agencies.
He said because of the transparent manner the election was conducted, the election appeal panel will have less work to do as there was no petition from members of the party in the state over the conduct of the exercise.
Suswam declared that from feelers members of the committee received during their visit to Edo State, it is apparent that PDP remains the party to beat during the forthcoming governorship election.
While receiving the report of the committee on behalf of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, a member of the committee in charge of Mobilisation and Organisation, Abdul Ningi, gave assurance that only duly elected ad-hoc delegates, in addition to the statutory delegates will be allowed to participate in the governorship primaries.
He said the era of substitution of delegates in PDP was over as the Caretaker Committee will ensure the governorship primaries is conducted transparently.
Other members of the ad-hoc delegates electoral panel are: Iyiola Omisore, Steven Oruh, Akilu Ndabawa and Nonye Nwaogu.
