The Edo State Government has partnered with MAY Foundation to step up the fight against human trafficking, irregular migration, sexual exploitation, and drug abuse, with a major awareness campaign set to kick off in Benin City on September 25, 2025.
The collaboration, reached through the state’s Ministry of Education, was confirmed by Mariam Yusuf, founder of MAY Foundation, who praised the administration of Monday Okpebholo (Governor) for its commitment to addressing one of the state’s most pressing social challenges.
“Slowly but steadily, this objective is being actualized. Today, the Government of Edo State under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is partnering with MAY Foundation to deliver this message to the good people of Edo,” Yusuf said.
As part of the initiative, a one-day conference has been scheduled to be held in Benin City on September 25, 2025.
The gathering will serve as a major platform for awareness creation, policy dialogue, and stakeholder mobilisation.
According to Yusuf, efforts are also underway to secure the support of First Ladies across Nigeria’s 36 states to take the campaign to grassroots communities.
She stressed that the foundation’s core mission is to enlighten Nigerians on the dangers of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and drug addiction to safeguard future generations.
She further acknowledged the commitment of Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, to the protection of women and children, stating that the foundation was ready to collaborate with her office to expand the reach of the campaign nationwide.
The Benin conference will be attended by prominent dignitaries, Okpebholo of Edo State, Edesili Anani, Edo First Lady, Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth Development, Emmanuel Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Osaretin Idahosa, wife of the Deputy Governor, and Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, Project Director, Africa 100 Most Notable Peace Icons.
Others expected are stakeholders from the organised private sector, as well as representatives of federal and state ministries, departments, and agencies.
