In continuation of protests against the declaration of the last September 28 governorship election result in Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Osagie Ize- Iyamu would on Friday lead mass protest across Benin metropolis.
The Friday protest by members of the Peoples Democratic Party would make it the fifth protests so far embarked by the party faithful in the state.
BusinessDay reports that the party loyalists and supporters including Civil Society movements, students, workers, traders, artisans, coordinated by the Centre for Patriotic Leadership Initiative (CPLI), a leadership and rights advocacy NGO, have been protesting the results in Benin City.
Saint Moses Eromosele, coordinator of CPLI as well as the protest said the Friday protest is one of the 100 of such protest planned against the outcome of the election.
Eromosele added that the protest tagged, “the Mother of the Series of Protests” will have personalities like the state chairman of the party, Dan Orbih among others.
“The protest is against impunity, perpetration of illegality and massive electoral fraud by INEC, APC, security operatives and Governor Adams Oshiomhole who colluded to steal and subvert the people’s mandate freely given to PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
“We have the permission of the law to protest against perceived wrongs because where there is a wrong there has to be a remedy. We shall take to the streets for 100 days until the stolen mandate is restored”, he said.
He urged all PDP members to dress in black because noting that the protest was geared towards the mourning the death of democracy.
“We are mourning the death of democracy, justice and fairness in Edo state. On that day, all Edo people, even APC, are all invited to throng the streets in a massive protest across Edo state as we are saying enough is enough to impunity and illegality”. He added.
He however urged the people to defy the purported police banned on streets protests in the state.
According to him, on the purported Nigerian Police Force recently announcement on a ban on streets protests in the state I want to ask them to defy the Police order, defy APC thugs, defy everyone who wants to silence your voice or darken your conscience. Stand for what is right and be counted. Take a place on the right side of history”.
“These protests are not about Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The protests are about you and I, our future, our hope. If they succeeded against POI it means that tomorrowwhen you and I also stand for election based on our track record or popularity, that someone somewhere would also deprive us of victory”, he stated.
