D’Tigress, the reigning African basketball champions and Olympic quarter-finalists, are pushing for a record fifth African title after beating fellow West Africans Senegal 75-68 to book their place in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire.
The championship, which dunks off on July 25, is expected to produce a new champion later today if D’Tigress fails to defend their title.

D’Tigress are on course to become the first African team to win the Afrobasket 5 times in a row.
The win also marks the D’Tigress’ 28th consecutive triumph in Women’s AfroBasket history.
“D’Tigress are also receiving improved allowances, welfare packages, and winning bonuses for the full duration of the tournament.
“They deserve nothing less. We are investing in their confidence, their welfare, and their winning spirit,” Shehu Dikko, chairman, National Sports Commission, said.

Nigeria’s D’Tigress maintained their 10-year unbeaten record as they defeated Senegal with 7 points in the tightly contested semifinal match of the AfroBasket Women’s championship.
The last time D’Tigress suffered a defeat was in 2015, and they have gone a decade unbeaten since that defeat.
D’Tigress defeated Cameroon 83-74 in the quarterfinal and overran Senegal by seven points in the semifinal to secure a place in Sunday’s final.
