Lagos came alive as the 2025 Dr. Bonds & Friends Tour kicked off, bringing with it a wave of youth empowerment initiatives, special-needs advocacy, cultural showcases, and global partnerships set to unfold across the city over the next ten days.
The tour, now recognized as one of the most influential cultural-exchange initiatives between Nigeria and the United States, will run from December 6–15, 2025, across multiple venues in Lagos.
Led by renowned humanitarian and cultural advocate, Dr. Calvin Bonds, the tour is designed to strengthen cultural ties, promote youth empowerment, spotlight special-needs advocacy, and open new doors for collaboration between Nigerian and American communities.
The 2025 edition features a full lineup of events, including auditions, workshops, outreach programs, research sessions, fashion showcases, and cultural ceremonies.
The schedule includes; open auditions for spoken word, poetry, acting, singing, and dance, with top finalists advancing to the prestigious Youth Empowerment Festival.
Industry and media sessions, bringing together designers, filmmakers, journalists, and creative leaders for panel discussions, auditions, and networking.
A specialized research masterclass led by U.S. APAD President, Dr. Sherry Davis, focusing on global research funding opportunities for PhDs and early-career researchers.
Humanitarian visits to the Makoko community, correctional centers, the Pacelli School for the Blind, and historical sites in Badagry.
These visits reinforce the tour’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and inclusive advocacy.
The Empowerment Festival, a full-day youth-centered event, will feature Hollywood-led skill workshops, open mic performances, youth talent competitions, and community welfare support, including free meals.
The festival provides a safe space for young people to be seen, heard, and uplifted.
The Special-Needs Fashion Show, a signature runway event celebrating differently-abled individuals, will showcase U.S. and Nigerian designers. Winners from the youth competitions will also be announced during the show.
A Cultural Day celebration will highlight Nigerian identity, arts, and heritage through a group visit to Nike Art Gallery, followed by an outdoor traditional naming ceremony for members of the visiting delegation.
At its core, the Dr. Bonds & Friends Tour is built on the values of empathy, unity, and cultural transformation. The 2025 edition emphasizes youth development and empowerment, special-needs inclusion and advocacy, grassroots community engagement, academic collaboration and research funding, creative industry exchange (film, fashion, and music), and strengthened U.S.–Nigeria cultural relations.
According to Dr. Bonds, the tour “is not just an event; it is a bridge between continents, an opportunity to uplift communities, and a reminder that global collaboration can create lasting transformation.”
The 2025 tour is supported by a diverse network of partners, including U.S.-based humanitarian organizations, Nigerian creative industry leaders, academic and research institutions, community organizations and NGOs, media partners, and public and private sector contributors.
This partnership framework has helped the tour grow into one of the most inclusive and culturally significant visiting programs in Lagos.
