Electricity distribution companies operating in Nigeria generated a N1.13 trillion revenue from January to June 2025, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission data has revealed.
BusinessDay’s analysis of the total revenue showed that the DisCos posted a total revenue of N178.68 billion in January, N191.75 billion in February, N188.89 billion in March, N199.85 billion in April, N191.57 billion in May and N182.11 billion in June 2025.
The total revenue in the period is higher than the 758.31 billion generated in the first six months of 2024. It is also higher than the total revenue collected for the entire year of 2024, which stood at N1.1 trillion.
The increase in revenue, however, has not translated to an increase in power supply, as households and businesses continue to struggle with poor electricity supply.
Power outages have worsened in 2025, crippling businesses, especially in the manufacturing and services sectors, and forcing households to rely increasingly on expensive alternative sources like diesel and petrol generators, solar panels, and inverters.
