The Delta State government has empowered another set of graduands of the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) with starter- packs after their eight-month training.
Meanwhile, the 44 latest beneficiaries of the scheme have said the training and empowerment received, has put them on the path to becoming successful entrepreneurs.
The beneficiaries, otherwise called Stepreneurs, were trained in electrical installation and solar works. They are among the 3881 youths in the state that have so far benefitted from the skills programme since the pilot scheme five years ago when Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led government introduced the Job and Wealth Creation programme.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to Businessday, said they would be deploying their skills to become job creators instead of waiting for white-collar jobs.

Two of them, Julius Kalaere Pina and Hosea Tuereyegha, from Burutu local government area of the state, said they were glad to be trained and established with starter-packs after many years of unemployment.
Godspower Macaulay, who hails from Udu local government area, appealed to the state government to continue with the programme so as to engage more unemployed youths.
“The programme should be continued. I hope to partner with a friend who runs an electrical enterprise; that will give me a good platform to market my skill, provide for my family and the economy of Delta State,” he said.
Earlier, the chief job and wealth creation officer of the Delta State Job Creation Bureau, Eric Eboh, a professor, reiterated the government’s vision of achieving a stronger Delta through youth empowerment, economic prosperity and social inclusion.
