Dangote Cement Company has inaugurated 100 unemployed youths into Junior Technicians Scheme (JTS) of batch 3 and 4 of the Dangote Academy.
Speaking during the inauguration, Davikumar Victor Edwin, the GED Business Development Portfolio disclosed that the Junior Technicians Scheme ( JTS ) batches 3 and 4 is made up of 100 Nigerian who are about to begin their journey towards the acquisition of technical skills and leadership ability which are means of capacity development and empowerment, adding that they will also during the training acquire entrepreneurial skills which he said will place them far above their mates who did not get the golden opportunity.
Edwin also disclosed that JTS is one of the programmes run by Dangote Academy that runs for a period of 18 month, adding that the first set that was admitted in 2014 are now working in different Units in Dangote Group of Companies while few others are working in other manufacturing Plants across Nigeria.
He recalled that the Dangote Academy was established in 2010 to serve as talent pipeline for the Dangote Group and to fill in the gap of industrial skills gaps in the country, adding that this is in recognition of the fact that the Group and most industries across that country cannot solely rely on Universities and Colleges of Technology to provide the specialised technical and managerial training require to run major (modern) industrial factories such as Dangote, particularly in the large numbers of personnel they require to run their operations all over the country and outside Nigeria.
He said “ Therefore it is expected that at the end of the 18 month training programme, these 100 young Nigerian being admitted today will become master technicians in any one or more of the following areas, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, Machining and Fitting, Mechanical Maintenance, Automobile Maintenance and Instrumentation. All of these are critical skills areas for the development of any community or nation
He urged the fifty beneficiaries drawn from host communities Obajana and Ibese to do their best and excel in their training so that the goals of the initiative would be realize, adding that they are looking forward to being able to replicate this initiative.
He maintained that Dangote Group believes strongly in human capacity development , hence this massive investment in both physical infrastructure and human capacity development training programme which he said is not limited to Engineering both covers other endeavours , adding that the Academy has equally trained about 10,000 employees in 2017 through delivered and supported training programmes.
Edwin also revealed that Dangote Academy is the training hub that serves their expansive business acquisitions and operation within and outside Nigeria , stressing that it is expected to serve the capacity development needs of some other African I’d igneous industries and multinationals.
He emphasized that in other to get propelled into such as enviable level of fulfilment, they are partnering with reputable institutions within and outside the country for capacity development. He equally enlisted the Germans Association of Equipment Manufacturers, whose team is represented by Haute Kayoode and Joachin Kuhnrich , National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) for the approval and registration of their agreements on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the registration and accreditation of Dangote Academy programmes
He hinted that Dangote is presently in discussions with Vocational Education and Training Authority of Tanzania for the training of technicians to support Africans operations especially in Tanzania, while maintaining that all these are geared towards enhancing the capacity of Dangote current and potential staff.
While congratulating the newly admitted batch 3 and 4 junior technicians, he equally urged them to make a strong commitment to learn and also take cognizance of the immense investment being made on them by Dangote Group . “This programme is offered free at no cost to the trainees. You are going to have the best training of your life in the next 18 months. Do not disappoint all those who have helped to make this reality, especially Aliko Dangote , the President /Chief Executive Dangote Group”.
