Customs revenue from Edo, Delta hits over N3 billion in 2nd quarter of 2019
The Controller, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Edo/Delta Area Command, Mr Olaniyi Alajogun, says its revenue generation records has hit over N3 billion in the second quarter of 2019.
Alajogun who disclosed this to BusinessDay during a brief new rank decoration ceremony for 16 newly promoted officers of the service in Warri on Thursday, said this has surpassed its 2018 first half year revenue generation record.
Alajogun said the last three months of the first half of the year had been blossoming.
While explaining that the revenue generation mandate of the area was N1.5 billion per month, Alajogun said the months of April May and June had yielded above the targeted revenue mandate.
He noted that the improved revenue generation had comfortably covered for the first three months revenue generation which was low.
He further explained that the improved revenue generation outlook was as a result of the hard work and the professional conducts of the men of the service under the area.
“From the figures we have now we must have come beyond fifty percent. I can tell you that in the month of April this year we got about No, 1.7 billion. In the month of May we did N2.3billion and in June 23rd also did N2.3 billion. But the first three months of the year, like you all know, that is when people plan their business for the entire year, waiting for what the government policies will look like and all that. However we got a little bit close to the N1.5 billion mark. The little loses we had the first few months of the year had been covered in April, May and June.
“Revenue for January-June 2018 is N6,867,808,602.87, while the corresponding period for 2019 is N10,086,545,252. We had an increment of N3,218,736,649.2.
“What led to the improvement in April, May and June, I will say is because of professionalism on our side. We try as much as possible to ensure that all the revenue that are accruable to government comes to it. We do due diligence in everything we do and we ensure that we get maximum results,” he said.
Earlier, while speaking to the newly promoted officers of the service under his command, Alajogun encouraged them to put more efforts to their service, reminding them that the only way to justify their promotion is to work harder.
“I just want to say congratulations to those who have just been decorated. As the saying goes, ‘the reward of hard work is more hard work’. The fact that you have been promoted means you have been working hard and what is expected of you is more hard work. At least I can vouch for two among you who have been working directly with me; Hamzat and Emma have been working hard so I expect more work from them.
“You are expected to work hard and keep the image of the service in a very good stead. We’ll all be working together so we can realise the goal that is set ahead of us as officers and as a service,” Alajogun said.
