Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has been honoured with a Guinness World Record after achieving 132 international victories, the most by any player in football history.
The Al Nassr captain received the prestigious recognition ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League quarter-final second leg against Denmark. Cristiano Ronaldo later found the net as Portugal secured a 5-3 extra-time victory, sealing their spot in the semi-finals.
With over 20 years of international football, Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut for Portugal in 2003 and has since built an illustrious career. His latest milestone saw him surpass former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, who previously held the record with 131 international wins. Spain’s legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas ranks third on the list with 121 victories.

An unparalleled legacy
Before Sunday’s clash at Estadio José Alvalade, Ronaldo was presented with a commemorative plaque by Guinness World Records. Despite missing a penalty in the highly competitive fixture, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star responded with a goal, further strengthening Portugal’s quest for Nations League glory.
At 40 years old, Ronaldo continues to break records few in football history can match. Over the years, he has become:
Portugal’s all-time leading scorer with 136 goals in 218 matches, far surpassing Pauleta’s 72 goals.
The highest goal scorer in men’s international football history (136 goals and counting).
The all-time leading scorer in UEFA Champions League history (140 goals in 183 matches).
The most-capped male player in international football (219 appearances), surpassing Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa (196 caps).
Still a key player for Portugal
Ronaldo’s experience and leadership remain invaluable for Portugal. With six UEFA Nations League goals—including his latest against Denmark—he remains an important player in Roberto Martínez’s squad. His influence is also crucial in nurturing young talents like Gonçalo Ramos, who is expected to step into the striker role once Ronaldo eventually retires.
Despite approaching the twilight of his career, Cristiano Ronaldo remains a footballing phenomenon, proving that age is no barrier to greatness.
