The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled June 27 to deliver its ruling in the contempt case involving Godswill Akpabio, Senate President and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The matter stems from a suit filed by the embattled lawmaker.
Justice Binta Nyako is also expected to rule on a preliminary objection filed by all the defendants, including the Senate President, challenging the court’s jurisdiction.

The judge disclosed this after Michael Numa, SAN, representing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, and counsel for the defendants identified and adopted their respective processes in the matter.
The judge stated that all necessary processes appeared to be in place and indicated that the court would first address the contempt issues before making a decision.
She explained that the notices of preliminary objection would be considered next; if they were upheld, the case would be dismissed.
However, if they failed, the court would then proceed to examine the originating summons filed by the plaintiff.

Earlier, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senator representing Kogi Central, was present in court to observe the proceedings.
Nyako had previously scheduled the day’s session to hear the contempt claim filed by the Senate President against Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The judge also confirmed that she would consider an earlier contempt application filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio, the Senate, and others, over alleged disobedience of a prior court order.
Justice Nyako ruled that all pending applications including the preliminary objection and the originating summons filed by the embattled senator would be heard together.
