Concern mounts as Buhari extends vacation again
For the second time in quick successions, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, again extended his ongoing “medical vacation” in the United Kingdom (UK) with appeal to Nigerians to show understanding about issues surrounding his health.
Nigerians have expressed concerns about president’s health status even as the Presidency keeps sealed lips, which allows room for speculations, with different segments of the society coming up with different conjectures. The president was recently said to have had a telephone conversion with President Donald Trump of the United States of America, prompting Nigerians to demand that he (Buhari) should also speak to Nigerians from the UK.
The latest extension of President Buhari’s medical vacation seemingly questions the continued position of top government officials, including the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, that the president is hale and hearty.
Buhari in a letter by his special adviser on media, Femi Adesina, said that he needed a longer time to rest, and have no need to rush back to work.
The president said on Tuesday that he needed an extensive rest following the results from the series of medical tests he carried out in the UK where he is on vacation. He noted that the four-paragraph letter that he was staying longer than expected in the UK.
President Buhari, however, praised Nigerians for their prayers, good wishes and support adding that there was no cause to be troubled.
According to Adesina, “President Muhammadu Buhari thanks millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country.
“The President is immensely grateful for the prayers, show of love and concern. President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry.
“During his normal annual check-up, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned,” he said.
