The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has increased the number of trips on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) in response to rising passenger demand along the corridor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday on the corporation’s X handle, signed by Callistus Unyimadu, its Chief Public Relations Officer, the NRC said the new timetable will take effect from Friday, March 6, 2026.
The adjustment, according to the corporation, is designed to provide commuters with more travel options, improve operational flexibility, and strengthen service delivery on the busy rail route.
The corporation noted that operations on the corridor had previously been affected by disruptions, including the Abuja–Kaduna train attack and the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment, which forced a reduction in rolling stock from three trains to one.
As part of safety measures following the incidents, the NRC also introduced Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR) and reduced the number of daily trips on the route.
However, with operational stability now restored and passenger demand remaining high, the corporation said it had expanded services to better meet commuters’ expectations.
This development also follows the earlier relaxation of some temporary speed restrictions on the corridor.
Under the revised schedule, passengers travelling between Idu and Rigasa will now enjoy three trips on Fridays and Sundays, as well as on Saturdays and Mondays, while two trips will continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Specifically, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Idu–Rigasa service will depart Idu at 8:45 a.m. and return from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.
On Fridays and Sundays, three trips will operate, with departures from Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., while trains will depart Rigasa at 11:30 a.m.
Similarly, on Saturdays and Mondays, services will depart Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while trains will leave Idu at 11:00 a.m. All services will make scheduled stops at Kubwa.
The NRC advised passengers to take note of the new timetable and plan their journeys accordingly, reaffirming its commitment to improving capacity, reliability, safety, and overall passenger experience across its rail network.
