A Lagos-based cleric has called on President Bola Tinubu to grant an unconditional pardon to Nnamdi Kanu to restore peace in the Southeastern part of the country.
Chidi Anthony, founder, Kings in Christ Ministries International, made this call on the sideline of the Onitsha Monday freedom service with the theme, ‘Family Freedom’ organised by Zion Owell Outreach Ministry.
Anthony who was the guest minister at the Monday freedom service said that the weekly sit-at-home observed in many parts of the Southeast have negatively affected the economic activities of the people in the region.
He said the weekly sit-at-home observed every Monday has lost its essence and that the federal government must find a political solution to ease the effect on the people.
“The truth is that it’s only a madman who supports the sit-at-home in the eastern part of Nigeria. The sit-at-home has crippled; it’s seriously affecting the economy in the eastern part of Nigeria,” Anthony said, disclosing that the weekly sit-at-home made a lot of people live in fear.
Anthony, who is also the president of the Pentecostal Ministers Forum (PMF) said a lot of killings are happening in the region in the name of sit-at-home.
The PMF president said no reasonable individual will support the weekly sit-at-home in the Southeast. “Every Monday, you force people to sit in their various homes and some bad eggs are using it to target their enemies.”
On finding a political solution to the crisis, Anthony said that president Bola Tinubu can grant unconditional pardon to Nnamdi Kanu to restore the peace in the region.
“So, I don’t think it’s benefiting the eastern part of Nigeria and to me – If I might suggest, the only thing that can bring lasting peace in the eastern part of Nigeria, if Nnamdi Kanu can be released.
“I so much believe that his words will have a lot of impact positively in the eastern part of Nigeria; if only he can be released,” Anthony said.
He therefore urged president Bola Tinubu, to use his presidential power to release Nnamdi Kanu so as to restore lasting peace in the eastern part of Nigeria.
Anthony said many in the region are using the long detention of Nnamdi Kanu with the DSS to perpetuate evil in the region.
“The truth is that after releasing Nnamdi Kanu, I don’t see what anybody will lay hand on to commit crime again.
“I don’t see why insecurity will be in the eastern part of Nigeria any longer because all of them are laying hand on the detention of Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
