No doubt quality secondary education remains the bedrock for the development of capacity in any forward looking country. It is therefore with a vision to contribute to the development of human capital in the secondary level of education that the management of City of Knowledge Academy, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State has reaffirmed its commitment to mould students that think locally and acts globally.
Biola Lamikanra, the Head of School, affirms that the goal of the school is to produce global citizens, citizens that can fit in anywhere in the world.
Lamikanra in a chat with select journalists at the open day of the school recently said with ethical pillars of “Culture, Character and Confidence”, the school is determined to set in motion a quality cultural reorientation that would spur pupils’ interest in indigenous values.
According to her, “These values would enhance social awareness, conscience, empathy, diligence and academic excellence, while developing mind wealth among the pupils. The pupils are selected future leaders with the capacity to bring lasting positive change in within Nigeria and the world stage in general”.
The educationist disclosed that with the introduction of technology to learning, the teaching and learning process in the school is technology driven, because it makes work much more easier, “We continue to emphasis on the use of technology in the school, we have a vibrant virtual learning environment where students and staffs can interact. This is vibrant and that is what you find operational all over the world”, she said.
On the teaching of aspect of some specialise soft skills that help develop well rounded students, the educationist maintains that the school teach about acquisition of skills. These skills include time management, organisational skills, interpersonal skills, being team players, communication skills, study skills, entrepreneurship etc.
“In all of these, we are making sure our children are problem solvers, critical thinkers, are enquirers, curious, they are asking the right questions and they want to find out exactly what is happening because once they do that they will be able to have a good idea. Learning is expanded because we are teaching them how to think themselves and how to learn” she added.
