Chisco Transport Limited has commenced the local assembly of Yutong luxury buses and Sinotruk trucks in Lagos, aiming to expand its road transport services and ensure a smooth launch of a new transport franchise.
The company rolled out a total of 80 buses and 40 trucks to begin operations connecting the South-East with the North, as well as the Lagos-Accra West Coast route, as part of the newly introduced Drive-To-Own franchise scheme.
Speaking at the roll-out presentation ceremony, Chidi Anyaegbu, chairman of the Chisco Group, said the company’s investment decisions have been guided by employment creation and long-term economic impact rather than short-term profitability.
“I didn’t see transportation as the most profitable business when I started in 1981, but I saw it as a business that would employ many people,” Anyaegbu said, adding that the Drive-To-Own scheme was conceived to expand road transport services while creating jobs.

The company also disclosed that while its new assembly plant, located in the Iponri area of Surulere, Lagos, is accredited to assemble Yutong buses and Sinotruk trucks, it can also handle other Chinese commercial brands, noting that vehicles assembled at the plant would be available not only for its internal operations but also for other transport and logistics operators.
Obinna Anyaegbu, managing director of Chisco Transport, said the company’s operations now extend beyond passenger movement to include time-sensitive and essential cargo such as medical supplies.
“Apart from moving passengers, we are also moving very critical items that are needed across the country, like medicines. This responsibility is not one to be taken lightly,” Anyaegbu said, noting that customer satisfaction remains central to the company’s operations.
Representatives of Yutong, led by Damian Lee, pledged 24-hour technical support for the buses, including spare parts supply and maintenance training.
Some beneficiaries of the Drive-To-Own scheme said they had undergone training and were prepared to operate the vehicles in line with safety and service standards.
The 53-seater Yutong buses are fitted with air-conditioning, phone charging ports, and on-screen entertainment, while the trucks feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a bed space for the captain.
