Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Inter Milan will go head-to-head for Europe’s most prestigious club trophy in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.
The highly anticipated clash will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich, home to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Redemption mission for Inter
For Inter Milan, the final is a chance to salvage a season that fell short of expectations on the domestic front. Simone Inzaghi’s men finished runners-up in Serie A, losing out on the title to Napoli on the final day. Inter also came up empty in the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia, both losing to city rivals AC Milan.
Despite a promising start and high hopes of defending their league title, inconsistency plagued the Nerazzurri.
Defeats to Bologna, Roma, and Lazio, as well as a heavy Coppa loss to Milan, undermined their season. However, their dramatic 7–6 aggregate semi-final triumph over Barcelona has injected new life into their campaign and given them hope of ending their 15-year wait for a European crown.
PSG eyeing first Champions League trophy
PSG enter the final buoyed by domestic dominance. The French giants cruised to the Ligue 1 title with a commanding 19-point lead. Though they ended their league season with three winless matches, their Champions League journey remained focused and resolute.
Their path to the final saw them knock out Arsenal with a 3-1 aggregate win in the semi-finals, including a clinical 2–1 victory at Parc des Princes. With the backing of Qatar Sports Investments, PSG are aiming to finally lift the trophy that has long eluded them.
A historic night beckons in Munich
This season’s final returns to Germany for the first time since 2012, with the 75,000-capacity Allianz Arena set to provide a stunning backdrop. Both PSG and Inter are seeking to etch their names in history, Inter by reclaiming past European glory, and PSG by claiming it for the first time.
Legacy at stake for both clubs
While dreams of a treble may have slipped away from Inter, securing the Champions League would still mark one of the greatest seasons in the club’s modern era.
For PSG, lifting the trophy would validate years of heavy investment and ambition. With everything to play for, Munich is set for a titanic showdown on Saturday night.
