Cavista Technologies has revealed that Lagos State University(LASU)’s Team ByteBros has emerged as the overall winner in its hackathon on technology solutions by outperforming 46 teams drawn from five tertiary institutions.
The firm stated at the hackathon event that the commitment to innovation and talent development has positioned the initiative as a key contributor to Nigeria’s growing technology and AI ecosystem.
Oyebola Morakinyo, general manager of Cavista Technologies, urged young innovators to challenge conventions and pursue bold ideas.
She stated that the company views the hackathon not only as a competition but as a pipeline for identifying and nurturing future technology leaders who can compete globally.
The hackathon innovation challenge organised by Cavista Technologies brought together about 200 students to develop data-driven, preventive healthcare solutions under the theme ‘From Data to Prevention: AI as Your Health Partner.’
ByteBros secured a N2 million grand prize after outperforming 46 teams drawn from five tertiary institutions across Lagos State.
Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, while giving a goodwill message, praised Cavista Technologies for creating a platform that enables young Nigerians to translate talent into solutions that drive economic growth.
She noted the increasing role of technology in storytelling, digital content, and the wider creative economy.
Following preliminary rounds, 10 finalist teams pitched their ideas to a panel of judges. Participating institutions included Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Yaba College of Technology, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Lagos, alongside LASU.
Team Mannalon from Pan-Atlantic University finished second, winning N1 million, while Team Nibbles from LASUSTECH placed third with N500,000. Fourth and fifth place teams received N400,000 each, sponsored by Niyi Olajide, Cavista Holdings’ chairman.
In addition to the cash prizes, participants gained access to mentorship and networking opportunities. Special category awards were also sponsored by event partners, including Fearless Energy Drink, Mouka Foam, Rite Foods, and Rack Centre.
