CAC to address hitches on its online registration portal
The Corporate Affairs Commission,(CAC),says it is working round the clock to ensure it effectively addresses those concerns often raised by clients in an effort to utilise it’s online registration Portal for busines registration and related transactions.
Bello Mahmmud, the Registrar General of the Commission, said in Abuja that the commission would ensure it addresses such concerns to ensure ease of doing business constraints are wholistically addressed especially now that the country is deepening efforts at attracting more trade inflows and boost foreign direct investment.
Part of the concerns often raised by the clients who visit the Corporate Affairs Companies Registration Portal is the inability of the portal to handle key business registration processes, and persistent downtime often witnessed during the course of online business transactions.
“We are working closely with the Presidential Council on the Ease of doing Business, and supervising Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments to ensure Nigeria appreciates in ranking and ensure healthier business environment is facilitated for the businesses to operate.”Mahmud Bello, the Registra General of Corporate Affairs Commission said.
The Registrar General who was represented by Garba Abubakar, his special Assistant on Companies Registration said on Tuesday during a media interaction h that,”Presently,we are having hitches and part of the reason is the hoisting environment which we are working assiduolsy to address.
The CAC data centre the Registrar explained may not have all the facilities of the full fledged data centre, adding that it could have issues of intermittent epileptic power supplies, and may have issues of Technology, for example connectivity from time to time.
“That is why the Commission resolved that all the critical ICT infrastructure of the CAC,for instance the servers should be hoisted in an environment that could guarantee at least 98 percent service availability.
Speaking on the Commission’s efforts to address the concerns the Registra noted that,”What we are planning to do is to take this hoisting centre, where there is unlimited bandwidth, that doesn’t have issues of power, which would enable us have seamless operations that would enable us have uninterrupted availability of service”
It would be noted that the development of the company Registration Portal has been launched since 2015,which has made company Registration activities to witness progressive increase although not without hitches.
The CAC has also explained that the portal has significantly impacted on the time cycle for company registration and the achievement of 24 hours registration target.
It would be noted further that the CAC is currently reviewing the Companies and Allied Matters Act ,in a bid to ensure it is tune with demands of global best practices in company regulation and administration.
The review will strengthen the regulatory and enforcement capacities of the Commission to effectively discharge it’s functions and thus promote global best practice and good corporate governance in the management of companies,Business Names and Incorporate Trustees.
Analysts believe that the federal government must fast tract the process of pushing for the new CAMA bill to enable provision for Business Rescue and recovery proceedings as spelt out in the bill which will give temporary moratorium to financially distressed companies and ensure jobs and businesses are also protected for healthier growth of the economy.
