The Cross River State Agrobusiness coordinator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Nigerian investment activity, Denis Ikpali has said that the state requires over 200,000 tons of maize annually to meet its market demand.
Ikpali said the demand for maize from the Dangote Group, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc coupled with domestic consumption, is huge.
Ikpali spoke at a one-day agrobusiness training on fish farming and maize production organised by Bright Flow Foundation for women and children with the theme “economic prosperity and food surplus” held in Calabar, the state capital.
According to the USAID coordinator, we want to involved women and children because they are ready to market for these two products and they are support system available he disclosed.

Speaking also, the chief executive officer of Bright Flow Foundation, Anefiok Iton said the training was focused on exposing women and youths to the value chain in selected agricultural products. She further said that the Foundation would continue to address problem areas in different sectors of the economy.
“We are looking forward to engaging women and children in the fish and maize value chain. This foundation will help them to succeed.”
In his goodwill message, the state coordinator of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mike Ogbuji said that his agency would continue to support business that can develop and enhance export in the state.
