Boxers are to earn a total of N20 million in prize money at the GOtv Boxing Night 12 scheduled to take place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, on Oct. 1.
The winner of the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Award for the best boxer will go home with N2.5 million.
The two runners-up will win N1 million and N500, 000 respectively.
Flykite Promotions, organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, have assured boxing fans of adequate security coming for the event holding in commemoration of Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director, Flykite Promotions, assured that fans would be adequately protected for the day.
“Adequate security has always been our standpoint, and ever since, we have not witnessed something beyond our control.
“Over the last 11 editions, we have recorded no unsavory event; fans, who are the soul of the sport, need to feel safe to enjoy themselves.
“One of our partners, KSquare Security, is a top-tier security firm with vast experience in the handling big events like this,” Alumona said.
Seven bouts are scheduled to hold at the GOtv Boxing Night, four will be international bouts of different weight categories.
One of the biggest bouts of the night will see reigning African Boxing Union Welterweight Champion, Nigeria’s Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo, defend his title against Ramadhani Shauri of Tanzania.
Another bout set to be explosive is between Nigeria’s Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph and Israel Kammwamba of Malawi for the Commonwealth Africa Lightweight title fight.
Tanzania’s Juma Fundi will exchange punches with Nigeria’s Waidi “Skoro” Usman in an international featherweight challenge contest.
In the Light Welterweight category, Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi of Nigeria will stake his West African Boxing Union title when he faces Ghana’s Bilal Ibrahim.
Other bouts lined up include a national challenge bout between Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu and Samuel Opaogun.
GOtv boxing prodigy, Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde will fight Tombraye “Tornado” Christmas in the light welterweight category as Kabiru “KB Godson” Towolawi will engage Akeem Adebayo in a national light heavyweight challenge.
