The agritech startup is using electric vehicles, solar swap hubs, and pay-as-you-go financing to cut $7 billion in annual food losses, empower farmers, and build a cleaner, more profitable food system.
Nigeria loses over $7 billion worth of food every year before it reaches consumers, a crisis driven by poor logistics, fuel costs, and lack of affordable transport. BevAgro, a fast-rising agritech startup, is solving this challenge by electrifying the food supply chain with electric vehicles (EVs), solar-powered battery-swap hubs, and a smart financing platform.
“We turn food losses into profits by powering farmers, traders, and delivery riders with EVs financed seamlessly through every battery swap,” says Ashaolu, COO of BevAgro.

Powering the “Agri-to-City” Mobility Grid
BevAgro’s network links farm clusters, wholesale markets, and city neighborhoods using electric three-wheelers, light cargo vans, and e-bikes. More than 150 EVs already operate on Nigerian roads, supported by solar swap hubs that allow quick battery exchanges, eliminating petrol costs and downtime. Each swap triggers an automated micro-repayment, enabling pay-as-you-go EV financing and eventual asset ownership.
Farmers and traders now report lower transport costs, faster deliveries, and less spoilage, boosting profits and delivering fresher produce to markets.
Blended Financing to Scale Impact
To expand clean mobility in agriculture, BevAgro recently signed a $1.7 million grant agreement with a leading Development Finance Institution (DFI). This grant will enable farmers to afford and access BevAgro’s electric vehicles, with deployment now in progress across key agricultural corridors.
Additionally, BevAgro has secured $1.4 million from a local commercial bank to grow its financing pool. The capital supports additional vehicles, solar swap hubs, and digital onboarding of cooperatives and market unions, with a goal to reach 2 million farmers and traders nationwide.

Smart Technology, Measurable Results
BevAgro’s proprietary platform integrates:
• IoT-enabled batteries with real-time data
• Smart repayment engine for micro-deductions per swap
• Analytics dashboards for uptime, repayment, and carbon savings
This data-driven model makes the system scalable, transparent, and bankable.
Impact: Turning Waste into Wealth
By focusing on rural agriculture and essential-goods logistics, BevAgro cuts petrol dependence and enables solar-powered mobility by converting waste into wealth, emissions into savings, and mobility into opportunity. Each swap hub targets profitability within 30 months, driven by recurring energy revenue and predictable repayments.
The Road Ahead
“This is more than transportation, it’s transformation,” says Ashaolu. “Every battery swap, every kilometer, every farmer we empower is a step toward a future where food moves cleanly, efficiently, and profitably. We are not just reducing waste; we are building a food system that feeds families, powers livelihoods, and protects the planet.”
