Bayern Munich are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Liverpool over the transfer of Colombian winger Luis Diaz, with the deal worth £69 million (€80m).
The Bundesliga champions had an initial bid of around £58.5 million (€67m) turned down, but have now returned with an improved offer that has pushed talks forward. Diaz, 28, has made it known he wants the move, leaving Liverpool with little option but to engage in discussions.
Diaz was left out of the Reds’ squad for their pre-season friendly against AC Milan, further fuelling speculation about his future. Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed after the 4-2 defeat that the winger’s omission was related to the transfer rumours.
“In Lucho’s situation, yes, that was the reason he didn’t play,” Slot told LFC TV. “There are a lot of rumours around him lately, and I cannot go into that. He’s training well with us, but we’ve decided, for now, not to play him.”
Slot also clarified that Darwin Núñez missed the match due to injury and that there were limited options up front.
Diaz joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37.5m (€42.9m) and has two years remaining on his contract. Despite Liverpool’s earlier reluctance to part with a key player, the club now sees the proposed fee as a sensible business decision given his age and the current market conditions.
If completed, Diaz would become one of Bayern’s marquee signings this summer as they look to revamp their squad under new manager Vincent Kompany.
